Always Keep Your Sunny Side Up!
A Company of Fools by D. Ellis
A company of fools is a book about an orphan boy named Henri who lives in a monastery in Paris in medieval time, 1349. One day, a boy named Micah comes to the monastery and becomes Henri's best friend even though the two of them are the complete opposite of each other.
Then the plague comes (also known as the black death) to France and enters the monastery.
Micah and Henri faces many hard months as they just try to survive. Because everyone in France are afraid and depressed because of the plague, the boys come up with the idea of creating "The Company of Fools". This is what they called their group when they travelled around in Paris goofing around to cheer up the people. They sung and danced and did little acts for entertainment. They didn't require any money for their preformance.
From reading this book you learn about what life was like during the middle ages and what the plague was like. The word "friendship" plays a big role in this book. It is important to look at the good things in your life, not just the bad. Henri and Micah had a lot of fun together in the monastery even though the plague came. It is also important not to let money and jealousy come between you and your best friend. Because Micah was a better singer than Henri, he got paid and became famous. This almost ruined their friendship.
